Project Status
Construction activity at the HMP Glasgow site has increased significantly over the past few months including drainage and utility works, precast piling works for the houseblocks, the Central Facilities and Front of House buildings, perimeter fencing works to the western
boundary of the site and perimeter wall erection around the rest of the site. As well as this, the first of the houseblock panels have arrived from one of our offsite production facilities – a major milestone for the project!
Giving Back to Local Charities
Kier employees used their volunteering days to support local charities connected to HMP Glasgow. They spent
the day with St Paul’s Youth Forum, cleaning the local area, leafleting to promote their free services and
repainted a climbing frame built by HMP Barlinnie prisoners for the community.

Opening Doors for Young People
Abercorn Secondary supports young people with additional support needs, and through City of Glasgow College, Kier connected with a group enrolled in a construction course. Although they had no previous experience in the industry, they were eager to make their learning feel relevant. Their first request was a site visit, which Kier were delighted to arrange. The group has a range of abilities, and some students may move into employment after leaving school, a transition Kier are committed to supporting as they work towards that goal.
ROADWORKS
Roadworks at the junction of Royston Road and Broomfield Road are continuing and are now expected to be completed in June 2026. These works will create a new access road to the visitor and staff car park for the HMP Glasgow site, along with upgraded traffic signals and improved street lighting at the junction. These works were originally scheduled to finish in April 2026, but
unforeseen utility diversions have caused delays.
Once the junction works are complete, the remaining utility connections for the site will be able to progress. These works will be carried out in short sections of 200m on a rolling basis in order to minimise disruption.
